For about 5 years I was making the huge mistake of believing that the downward spiral in the response to conventional advertising was due to the recession that had its beginning officially in the year 2000. Then made worse by the 911 tragedy and later by the 2007 housing and economic crash. Although these played their own part in the downward spiral in response rates, I was about to learn that there was another dynamic in play that was effecting every business that sell their services or products in the local market. It is a dynamic that is causing far reaching repercussions for every business. One that will not change just by waiting until the economy gets better.
The dynamic I had not counted on was that most people were changing how they shopped for goods and services. They are now searching by hordes on the internet. People now realize they can get much more information about a company and its product or service by going online.
For the businessmen who are still asleep, this has serious implications for the profitability of your company, especially if you are relying on conventional advertising only. The shift has occurred and many are fighting their way through the dust wondering what happened. Sure some businesses are faring better than others using conventional advertising. It depends partly on the industry your in.

By 2009, statistics showed that 83% of all buyers in the U.S. go to the internet for information about services on products they are considering buying. This has huge implication for any business that struggles with offline advertising.
The shift has occurred and there is no turning back. As this trend deepens, many businesses will be left fighting their way through the dust wandering what has happened.
In 2004 I set out to dramatically increase the amount of time I was spending studying internet marketing . Quite frankly it was a fight for survival.
